The Cornish Rex: The Coolest Cat Around

Laura Giammona

I have never been much of a cat lover. To me, they often seem aloof and completely blase. I guess being bitten by them twice has done little to aid in me liking them. However, for all you cat lovers out there, I, Laura Giammona, have fallen for one particular breed. Thanks to our hosts, John and Karen Prescott of Springfield, MO, I am now an enthusiastic fan of these felines!

Cats and I tend to stay away from each other, respecting our mutual apathy, but little Noel (John and Karen's Cornish Rex) stole my heart. She was the most lovable and adorable cat I have ever seen. Within minutes of our arrival she was in my lap, purring! Now, let me emphasize how soft her coat is. It is comparable to touching cut velvet or rabbit fur. Actually it is incomparable, thatŐs how luxurious it feels. How could I forget to tell you that their coats are extremely shortŃno cat hair everywhere! One article described them as cats with velvet waves. Indeed!

These cats originated in Cornwall, England. They first appeared in a litter of barn cats born around 1950.

Despite my roommates detesting the idea of getting one of these lovely creatures, I have vowed that one day I will have my Cornish Rex!
